5 Main Factors Affecting The Service Life Of LED Lights

5 main factors affecting the service life of LED lights

If you use a light source for a long time, you will get a huge economic benefit and reduce your carbon footprint. Luminous flux reduction is a normal process depending on the system design, but it is negligible. When the luminous flux decreases very slowly, the system will remain in good condition without long-term maintenance.

Compared to other light sources in many applications, LEDs undoubtedly stand out. In order to keep the system in good shape, the following 5 factors need to be considered.

5 main factors affecting the service life of LED lights

1. Efficiency

LED lamps and LED modules are manufactured and driven within specific current ranges. According to its characteristics, LEDs with currents from 350mA to 500mA can be supplied. Many systems are driven in the high value region of this current range.

2. Acidic conditions

LEDs are also susceptible to some acidic conditions, such as in coastal areas with high salt content, in factories where chemicals are used or products are manufactured, or in indoor swimming pools. Although LEDs are also manufactured for these areas, they are carefully packaged into fully enclosed enclosures with a high IP rating.

3. Heat

Heat can affect the luminous flux and life cycle of LEDs. A heat sink prevents the system from overheating. The heating of the system means that the allowable ambient temperature of the LED lamp is exceeded. The lifetime of the LED depends on the surrounding ambient temperature.

4. Mechanical stress

When manufacturing, stacking or simply handling LEDs, mechanical stress can also affect the lifespan of LED lamps and sometimes destroy them completely. Watch out for electrostatic discharge (ESD), as this can cause short but high-current pulses that can damage the LED and LED driver.

5. Humidity

The performance of LEDs also depends on the humidity of the surrounding environment. Because in a humid environment, electronic equipment, metal parts, etc. tend to be damaged quickly and start to rust, so try to keep the LED system away from moisture.
